Kettins 6 March 1860

Dear Sir
I write to say, that
a large stone about 11½ feet
long & 4 broad has been
used as a bridge over the
burn at the Manse time
immemorial, verly likely
for more than 200 years
as appears from the worn appearance
of its surface in the middle
by traffic, But it had
been a Monument of
some event in far gone
days. On its under side
are several compart-
ments, filled with
carvings of different
kinds - Men, animals,
and other figures.
It was taken up some
two months ago by
Order of Lord Hallyburton
and the Antiquarian
Society, I think, & is now
set up in the churchyard
on a pedestal 4 feet high.
Now I am not certain
