A small rising ground at the E. [East] end of the village o Crook of Devon, the scene of capital punishments in the 16th & 17th centuries. inflicted by the Justiciary courts held at the Crook of Devon.
The cases that were generally tried were sorcery, witchcraft etc.

At this spot stood an unhewn stone which was moved to the opposite side of the road abt. [about] 60 years back; it was loosely set up at the back of a house, the house has been taken down & the stone lost. Roups or sales by auction etc were often held at the Cross.
