This quarry is within the wood of the same name, and yields freestone. Sir Archibald Hope Bart. [Baronet] of Craighall being Lord Superior of the Soil, all his feuars have the right to cart stones from this quarry, and on account of which right the village of Pitscottie and town of Ceres have been built from this and other quarries.

This name is applied to the large wood between Pitscottie and Ceres. It consists entirely of Firs. Within it is the Cairn Green Quarry, near which is a Trig. [Trigonometrical Station] called "Cairn Green in Tree". The wood belongs to two proprietors, the parish boundary being the line of division. That part on the North belongs to J.H. Rigg Esq. Tarvit. That on the South to Missis Preston Valleyfield, and forms part of the farm of East Pitscottie.
