009 | [situation] About 250 links N.E. by E. [North East by East] of Lindores House. A cave on the Estate of Lindores, it is a strong substantial stone building one story high and arched over head, but is below the level surface of the ground and marked out by a mound of earth over it. It is of an Oval shape, and done the duty of a stable for three horses during the year 1819 when the present House of Lindores was built. it is supposed to have been a cellar in connection with Lindores castle, and is now the only remains of it standing. It is also said that one of the Makgills of Lindores Killed Sir Robert Balfour of Denmill Castle, and that he afterwards lived in this Cave under concealment for a considerable period. |
