Sibbald in his history mentions Pitteadie as the residence of a gentleman of the name of Calderwood. the only remains existing now consists of a Square Tower which is in good repair. The entrance gateway which is still standing bears the date 1686. "on the side of the hill of Piteadie, the old castle of that name is very entire in its ruins.
