036 | [Situation] ½ W [West] by S [South] of Newton farm house. These braes extend from the old road (now a track) which runs South towards Drumpuddock Wood from the Road leading from Auchtertool to Stewarts Arms near the Pilkham Toll bar, to the New Farm at a point where they are no longer shaded on Trace. These braes present a most striking view from the South or viewed from their base presenting perpendicular sides covered with Furze and Slopes that forbid ascent: they are evidently a continuation of either the Pilkham or Cullelo hills, but these losing that altitude necessary for a hill or dwindling down to petty eminence about, the neighbourhood of the Road leading N. [North] from the Road before mentioned towards Craigton farm receive no appellation beyond the Eastern line of Pilkham Hills except the "Newton Braes". |
