036 [Situation] ½ mile S.E. [South East] of Craigton.
A portion of lofty uncultivated ground beginning at the Stewarts Arms, rising as it recedes in a N. [North] Easterly direction, having many remarkable eminences when viewed from the North; features Susceptible of a belief that they are of Igneous formation. Separated from the Cullalo Hills on the South by a rushy bottom for some extent which terminating, the bases of both hills seem to commingle but presently disunite, the Cullalo diverging to the E. [East] a short way where they end or become lost in the sober eminences clothed with Plantation at a point South of the place where begin the "Newton Braes" the Pilkham Hills extending N.E. [North East] terminate at the W. [West] side of the Road leading from the Auchtertool & Stewarts Arms Road to Craigton, and whilst they exist terminate their slopes gradually towards the South but more abruptly towards the North the road from the Stewarts Arms passing over and nearly intersecting their principal Summits. It is worthy of remark that these Hills in the Map of the Parish of Aberdour are called "Newton Hills". The hills are a continuation of the Cullalo range.
