John Aikern Esq[ui]r[e] Professor of Scottish law and son of Col[onel] Aikern, frequently resided here during the summer months: In 1765 he resigned his professorship and retired here to employ the re- mainder of his life in writing & preparing for the press his work styled "The Institutes of the Law of Scotland. it was Pub[lishe]d in 1773. five years after his death. He died in 1767. at Cardross in Montieth John Stewart Esq[ui]re the present propietor is a lineal descendant of the said Co[lone]l Aikern |
