011 The Site of a Grange on the Estate of Garvald the property of Mr Balfour of Whittingham. The grange was a large Strong Stone building 110 links long by 45 links wide and three storys high having when Standing, a Strong iron door. The ground floor was used as a Stabling for Cows and horses & poultry, the upper Storys were used as dwellings for Servants employ'd in and about the Establishment and Close by it was a Small dwelling house [usually] Occupied by the herdsman a part of the [back] and end wall of this portion Still remains * Standing about 4 feet high - It was one of those appendages belonging to religious houses in Scotland, this belonged to the Nunnery of Nunraw. It was laid in ruins at the time of the reformation and Since it has disappeared piece-meal until the only remains left is the fragment of wall above described
