011 | Six Stone Coffins on the farm of Nunrawbarns And left partly uncovered by a Cutting on one Side of the public road leading from Garvald to Johns Cleugh. The Stone Coffins are formed by large undress'd flags of Stone placed on their edges And Cover'd on the top by other flag of stone. When this road was first made about 45 years ago these Coffins were first discovered and other ones which were removed by the Making of the road. Those that were opened and removed were found to contain fragments of human bones which on being exposed to the open air fell into dust. The Six above described are about 5 ft [feet] below the Surface of the ground but thoug left bare by the Cutting have never been opened |
