PARISH OF NORTH BERWIC [Continued] Parish of North Berwick Contd. [Continued] - object in this parish is the Bass Rock (See descriptive remarks) In the eastern portion of this parish, close upon the coast stand the ruins of Tantallan Castle, formerly the residence of the powerful family of Douglas. The royal burgh of North Berwick is the only village in the parish. It mainly consists of two streets nearly at right angles with each other. The harbour is formed by a tolerably good pier, but it is dry at low water, and affords but little Shelter for shipping This parish is in the presbytery of Haddington, and synod of Lothian and Tweeddale.
