In the middle of High Street about 2 chains E [East] of the market cross (site of) The site of this weighing machine & place of public punishment is still preserved by a circular pavement where it formerly stood. The Tron was a wooden frame with scale attached for weighing woo[l] principally. Tron mean[s] an old Scottish weight 22 ounces to the pound. Jugs were rings with hooks attached for confining offenders by the neck and were fixed in the upright beam of the Tron. |
