010 | A plain but handsome building three storeys high and in good repair Surmounted by a splendid spire 150 feet high the clock in the spire has faces on each side of the square Base of the spire. This spire was built in the year 1830 and the east portion of the building was built in the year 1748 it has four cells for prisoners but has not been used since the new Prison was built except in cases of drunkness, the western portion contains the assembly room for the use of the county gentleman and Public meetings. It is a splendid room 60 feet by 30 the height is about 30 feet below this on the ground flat is the public reading room this was built in the year 1788. |
