This is a most beautiful mount of earth, perfectly round, and terminating in a sharp top; and is very entire, and of the most remote antiquity. It stands on the side of a ridge of hills, which separates Annandale from Nithsdale, and overlooks an extensive plain on the foot of the River Nith, part of Galloway, and all the Solway Firth. As to the use of this moat, it is generally agreed that the people met here to make laws and administer Justice. |

No vestige of the chapel is to be seen. The esatate on which it was situate is now called Rockhall. Thi was an endowed Chapel the pertinents of which though laid claim to by laymen After the Reformation, now yield certain proceeds to the present Minister of the Parish Church. It originally belonged to the Earl of Glencairn. |
