A plain edifice with Tower (used as belfry) Surmounted by a Spire of Considerable height. - In the tower is a good ClocK having 3 faces. This Church was built in 1724 partly of the material from the old Castle of Dumfries on the Site of which it stands. Its interior is well fitted out with Galleries &c. Sufficiently Commodious with Sittings for about 800. The Average Number of hearers about 450. Communicants about 300. The Minister is the Revd. [Reverend] Thomas Duncan D.D. [Doctor of Divinity] whose Stipend Amounts to £280, £140 of which paid by Government, the remainder by Seat rental. |
