PICT'S HOUSE (Site of) [Bylbster] | (Site of) Pictish HouseStone Cist & Urn found here. | Mr Alexander Doull Bylbster Mr Alexander Taylor Bylbster |
019 | This is the site of one of the many "Pictish Houses" which are in this neighbourhood, and there is nothing of importance to be said concerning it further than what has already been said of others in the district, only I may mention that while Mr Doull the farmer here, was removing some stones from this cairn for building purposes, he came upon an urn situated in the centre of a stone coffin, of the usual description, and in removing the slabs which formed the cist, he broke the urn. He also found a bronze shoe buckle in this cairn, and a great quantity of human bones, the bones were in very small pieces, and some of them calcined. Mr Doull says that the shoe buckle and many of the pieces of bones were sent to the Edinburgh Museum by the late Dr. [Doctor] Sinclair of Wick, he having given them to the Doctor for that purpose. |
