019 | While this field was being reclaimed in the year 1851. one of the workmen found a very strange looking stone which was situated below the surface about 18 inches. and in shape was something like the annexed sketch. The use of this stone was not known to the men that found it, but close to it was found a smaller one which fitted the curve in the large one, and it was then supposed to have been used for grinding corn. Mr Davidson of Old Hall. (the present occupier's father) bought these stones from the man who found them for 5/- [5 shillings] and sent them to the Edinburgh Museum. |
