002; 003 | The parish of Canisbay is in the presbytery of Caithness, synod of Sutherland & Caithness. Patron Sinclair of FreswicK, it is bounded on the north by the Pentland Firth, on the east by the Moray Firth, on the South by the parishes of WicK & Bower and on the west by the parish of Dunnet, Including the Island of Stroma the parish contains about 26958 Statute acres, the area of Stroma is about 1014 Statute acres; There are no detached portions of this parish nor are there any detached portions of any other parish situated within it. The Island of Stroma situated in the middle of the Pentland Firth belongs to this parish. The general aspect of the parish may be described as bleaK or moorish, fully two thirds of its whole area being moorland which principally consists of flat peatmosses and morasses; the remaining third consists of a strip of fertile land round the coast principally facing the Pentland Firth.
