003.05 This church is built in the form of a cross, and has the appearance of being ancient, there seems to be some doubt about its origin the present minister Dr [Doctor] Henderson states in the Statistical account of the parish that is was originally dedicated to St Mary. that is was founded by Robert 1st and thus his Queen i.e. Elizabeth) was buried here, but it is extremely doubtful whether this small building is the one referred to in the Charter wherein King Robert endowes 10 Canons to pray for the soul of his Queen. in the Lady KirK of Cullen, this charter is rather supposed to refer to the Collegiate Church which ther is abundant proof existed here, I cannot find any local Authority or History sufficient to maKe clear this point, but an eminent Antiquarian - Cordonier in his antiquities of Scotland states that the present parish Church of Cullen was dedicated to St Ann, and was built near the residue of the Baron a very prevalent custom in those days.
