Thomas Cowper, Boghead.

007.02 A stone cist or coffin consisting of large flat stones was struck by the plough, lately, in the north end of Gordon Castle Park. It was found a few chains West from the Roman Camp. Some of the stones have the appearance of having been dressed by hammer and chisel. On referring to the ground for additional information regarding the finding of this coffin the examiner states the "Only a part of the Stones were removed from the top of the Coffin, - When removing the stones the Superincumbent earth fell in and prevented the ploughman seeing what was contained in it. It was discovered a few weeks since" (Novr [November] 1868) " and is supposed to have been connected with the Roman Camp adjoining.
