CHAPEL | Chapel (formerly) Chapel |
James McAlister Esqr. Robert Miller Esqr. |
012 | A portion of the house of Chapeltoun presently occupied as the residence of Mr. McAlister. The following information respecting it was given to me by Mr McAlister. At a remote period the lands of Chapeltoun belonged to his ancestors and a Chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary is believed to have been here. The lands were sold to Mr Miller and the Chapel being in ruins was repaired as a farm house. The property having again been purchased by Mr. McAlister, he repaired the old building and made several additions to it, but preserving its ancient appearance some of the walls (now inside ones) are of great thickness. Mr Miller gave me the same account of it but said that though he believes this to have been formerly the Chapel, yet that it may only have been the residence of the Chaplain and that the Chapel may have been near the Chapel Hill |
