006 A small village about 3 miles South from Largs on the road to Irvine etc. It is pleasantly situated on the shore of the Firth of Clyde and occupies the south eastern corner of the Parish. There are a number of elegant villas occupied principally during Summer by visitors, attracted frm various places, by the beauty of the surrounding scenery. There are also a Free Church, a Church (Quoad Sacra) a School, a Post Office, and a Public House. Near the northern end of the village the building of Yachts and other small Boats is carried on to a considerable extent. The inhabitants generally are Tradesmen, Fishermen, and Labourers.
