006 The ruins of this Castle stand on the Northern bank of the Fairlie Burn about ¼ of a mile east from the village. The walls are still very entire and are of considerable height and at each corner are surmounted by a small projecting turret. from the thickness of the walls it appears to have been a place of considerable strength. No remains of any other buildings are visible around the scene.
"Fairley Castle formerly possessed by the ancient family of Fairley, said to be descended from a natural Son of King Robert II is now also in ruins. It was built in 1521 and is now the property of the Earl of Glasgow" Old Stat Acct [Old Statistical Account]
