TUMULUS [Greenhill] | Tumulus | Mr J Gilchrist Knockentiber Ho.[House] Mr J Fulton Carmyle Mr A Roxburgh Quarry Ho [House] |
017 | This object is on a considerable Hill and may be Considered a perfect Specimen of the Kind its is about 12 feet high and has a least diameter of about 90 links on top. It is supposed that Courts of Justice were held here in olden times, how far tradition is Correct on this point cannot now be well disputed, whether right or wrong. The farm steading takes its name from this Tumulus namely Greenhill. I consider this rather a barrow than a Moot hill. [Signed] J. Bayly |
