012 An eminence in the vicinity of Dunlop, rising gradually on the South & west, but on the E.N. [East North] & N. [North] West sides is very steep & in some places rocky. On the summit - from which an extensive view of the surrounding country is obtained - a Castle is said, formerly to have stood. No vestage of it is now to be seen, but on the east side of the Hill, the remains of what appears to have been a Trench are yet distinctly visible, abt. [about] 3 chains west from this, there is a slight hollow, but whether it has been connected with the Trench cannot now be seen, as the land intervening has long since been levelled and cultivated.
