040 A small but rapid stream which flows from surface water at the N. W. [North West] base of Bow Hill. From this point it runs for about a Mile through rough pasture land; & after flowing through Ashentree Glen, falls into the Tongue Burn Its bed is for the most part gravelly.

040 A small & slightly elevated patch of arable land. Tradition mentions it as being the ground whereon a battle was fought: but at what period, or by whom, cannot be ascertained. There have been Items & bones found in it; & are still in the possession of Mr. James Martin, Farmer Ashentree. Property of Alexander Oswald Esqr.
