DALRYMPLE [Continued form page 1] "'lofty Benlomond,' which is 44 min. [minutes] north from and on the same meridiam line with the British fortlet on Woodland, and the most southern eminence of the parish. From Kirkmein, the highest part of the parish, the north of Ireland, is distinctly seen in clear weather.
There are several streamlets, but the Doon is the only river, It forms the boundary between Kyle & Carrick, & skirts the whole length of the parish. It flows from Loch Doon above Dalmellington. ** There are four lochs in the parish - Martinham, Snipe, Kerse & Linston. Martinham is the largest. It is about a mile and a half in length, and stretches a considerable way into Coylton. * Several mineral springs are to be found in the parish - particularly one on the estate of Barbieston, now incorporated with Skeldon."
