047 A Steep nearly perpendicular precipice about 80 feet high, displaying a magnificant Basaltic Colonnade, Very few of the colours are whole, they are of various Shapes and Sizes, The most of those exposed to view are Separated from the parent rock by Small Fissures of from 3 to 6 inches and apparently ready to tumble down; - One of those Fissures formed a hiding place for Some of the Covenanters; There is not the least doubt that there has been a great eruption here at one time, the number of Scattered rocks Strewed in all directions at the foot, the Shattered State of those Still adhering to the Cliff is evident proof - Situated on the east Side and at the top of Benbeoch. -
