011 ; 015 ; 016 | A parish in the district of Cunningham, on the coast of Ayrshire; bounded on the northwest by West Kilbride, on the North by Dalry; on the East by Kilwinning; on the Southeast by Stevenston; and on the West and S. [South] West by the Firth of Clyde. It comprehends about 11 square miles. It has about 3 miles of sea coast. There are some con-considerable eminences in it - Knock Jargon rises upwards of 700 feet above sea level. The hilly lands on the Northern quarter of it average in height about 400 feet. In it are some antiquities such as Forts, Churches &c,- see elsewhere in Name book. |
