128 This object is situated on the S.E. [South East] side of Garbh Eileach & contiguous to the dwellinghouse on the island. It is said to be an ancient place of internment, It has not been used for upwards of 60 years No further information concerning it is obtainable.

128 On the tops of the two northmost of two promonent and precipitous mounds on the island of Dùn Chonnuill are situated what are said to be the ruins of an ancient fort - the three distinct ruins shown on trace being supposed to be that of one original building. The tradition relating to it is, that a Connal MacLachlan, from Ireland, took possession of the Island and fortified it for the purpose of defence, about the 14th century.
