210 Applies to a recess in precipice; Situated at the N. [North] end of "Port Mhic Phòil" & about 1/8th of a mile east of "Port an Amais;" English Meaning:-Brindled Johnston's Gibbet.

There is a tradition in the district to the effect that "Brindled Johnston" (who is said to have been a native of Cantire and a Colonel in the Royal Army, during the rebellion of 1745) was sent to the western Isles to suppress the rebels, and having succeeded in securing eleven of them in this locality, had them gibbetted at this place, hence the name. That such high handedness was possible, however, even in Jura, [underlined] at so recent a date savours of the improbable.
