235 | A short distance N.W. [North West] of the houses is a standing stone about 14 feet high of a slab form, near to it on a small mound is a large stone cist exposed view. There is no tradition concerning this further than the supposition of a battle been fought at some remote period. A few obelisks of rude unpolished stone, and evidently sepulchral monuments, are scattered through the parish. The most conspicuous has been erected in the neighbourhood of a ruinous building (see Dun Beachaire) and measures 16 feet from the surface; a grave at the base of the obelisk, covered with turf is 18 feet 7 inches in length, & 4 1/2 in breadth".
