Opportunely receiving a reinforcment they rallied, at a place named Sluggan, and renewed the action with such vigour that the foreigners were in their turn compelled to give ground. The Danes having in some measure recovered themselves made an unsuccessful stand where they first joined battle."

"This place is reported by tradition to have been the scene of a bloody engagment between the Danes and the natives &c
Though it is impossible to fix the date of the above battle it must certainly be very remote, previous at least to the conversion of these northern nations to the Christian faith; for the practice of burning the dead if it was common in these countries, was discontinued upon the establishment of Christianity among them."
