030 | "The mansion house of Schivas was built about 200 years ago, by a gentleman of the name of Gray, desended from a younger branch of the noble family of Kinfauns. The Grays were of the Roman Catholic persuasion and what is now a mansion had been their private Chapel. The date of the Communion Cups is 1618 of tokens 1622" vide Statistical Account page 669. This mansion was rebuilt about 100 years ago and subsequently was possessed by the family of Irvine of Drum, from whom it was purchased about 20 years ago by The Earl of Aberdeen. The estate consisted of about one eighth of the whole parish. The Manor is now used as a farm house. The house and grounds etc being very much neglected and in bad repair. |
