060 | A beautiful building erected in 1852-3. in Early-Decorated style of Gothic architecture the spire or steeple is on the N.E. [North East] corner, and rises to about 50 feet. there is a fine window in the chancel or East end beautifully filled with tracery and stained glass. There are two small side galleries. in the wings of the Chancel. The style of the building was altogether the choice of Sir Charles Forbes of Newe Castle, whose, predecessor bequeathed a sufficient sum for the purpose of erecting a church here. It is erected on (or partly on) the Site of the old parish church and will accommodate upwards of 700 hearers. and is used as the Established parish church. The Revd [Reverend] John Watt is the present minister. |
