029 | Rebuilt, as it is dated on the basement, in 1846, and Stands (as Dean Wilson pointed out to me) about 6 yards E. [East] of where the Ancient Cross stood. Sketch of the new Cross is given on the top of the Trace, A Known record of a Charter granted to the 3rd. Earl of Dunfermline and Lord Fyvie in 1673 recites that "his grandfather and predecessors were privileged of keeping a Weekly market and three annual Fairs as a Free burgh and barony called the burgh of Fyvie and granted to choose bailies and magistrates for the govt. [government] of the burgh, to possess one market Cross" &c - Situated in the village of woodhead. There is no market held here now. |

[punishing] and imprisoning malefactors and transgressors of the Laws to have and to make a 'Tolbooth' in the Said burgh of Fyvie to execute justice in all Criminals or Commiters of murder, theft and other crimes, within the said burgh limits &c" The Tollbooth was converted into a dwelling house, was pulled down some 30. years ago and a farm dwelling house is now standing upon the Site. situated abt. [about] 3. Chains N.W. [North West] of the Episcopal Church, Woodhead. Further particulars concerning the village and district may be found in Dr. [Doctor] Pratt's Buchan. |
