STONE CIRCLE (Remains of) [White Hill] | Stone Circle (Remains of) Stone Circle (Remains of) Stone Circle (Remains of) |
Mr Robert Gordon, Gordonstown. Mr Gordon, near Gordonstown. Revd [Reverend] John Minto, Clatt. |
025 | The remains of this Druidical place of worship is on the summit of White Hill, and appears to have been a very large circle, but a great quantity of the stones have been taken away from time to time for building purposes. Some people think that this is the remains of a Fortified Camp, built by the Clan Forbes, when they fought against the Gordons' at Tillyangus in 1572: but it is generally believed that a Druid Circle had existed here, long before these two clans had any existence. No doubt the Forbes' simply added more stones to the already made fortification when they fortified themselves here in 1572. |
