075 "Marischal's Hall which stood at the North end of the street which from this Circumstance was Called Marischal Street Consisted of several buildings surrounding a courtyard or close, and having a large garden attached it was honoured by the residence of Mary Queen of Scots in the Year 1562; and according to some writers, from its windows she beheld the execution of Sir John Gordon of [Findlater -- Marischal's Hall was but two storeys in height, about the middle of the last Century, it was purchased by the Magistrates for £800. and demolished to make way for the Street named in honour of his Lordship."
