Why is transcription important?
Transcription is a very important part of the project!
It allows people who can't read old handwriting to interact with the records. Once a record has been transcribed, a computer can search through the text which helps us to search through the records. Researchers can use transcriptions to conduct research, looking at larger data sets that are processed in spreadsheets.
Essentially by taking part in the project you are opening up historical records to academics, family history researchers and anyone who is interested in Scotland.
