036 [Situation] About 1½ miles SSE [South South East] of Drummore.
A considerable Creek or Bay on the Sea Shore of the farm of Mary Port the beach of which consists of sand & shingle it is little used as a landing place for vessels except when a cargo of Lime or Coal is imported to farmers of Mary Port & Creechan. It is said that it takes its name from the Virgin Mary to which the Ph. [Parish] Church is dedicated. The print of whose Knee is on a Stone in this Bay [hence] Mary Port, others affirms that Mary Queen of Scots landed at this place.
