034 | [Situation] At the South Side of the village of Isle of Whithorn. A small harbour about 20 chains long situated immediately beside Isle of Whithorn Village & affording safe anchorage for Vessels of small tonnage. It was erected in 1802 by the aid of convention of the Burgh at the expense of £700. There are 14 vessels of Small tonnage belonging to this port which are generally employed in exporting agricultural produce and importing lime, coals &c &c to & from the English & Irish Coasts. The Harbour dues is the property of the Royal Burgh of Whithorn and is let annually at the average rent of from £100 to £200. |
