The overthrow of the traffic of Monkery & the factitious attraction of St Ninian's Shrine terminated the social importance of Whithorn, "In 1684 the tower of the Church was still standing among the ruins of the Aisles transepts and extensive monastic buildings (See next page)

At the end nearest the Church on the North side is a house formerly the parochial School Over the door is a Stone bearing a Latin inscription Over an inscription in English the latter is "Train up a child in the way he should go""AD 1730"
