A large ancient Moat Situate about 10 chains NE [North East] of the village of Kirk of Mochrum in Shape nearly resembling the frustrum of a cone. It was Surrounded by a deep fosse or ditch, which is now on one Side greatly filled up. The appearance & Size of this moat resembles very much two others in this county, that of Balgreggan Moat & Ardwell Moat. The name Boghouse is derived from the farm of this name which formerly included the lands around this place. |
