The old casle of baldoon has now become celebrated in romance:- an incident that occured within its walls having furnished Sir Walter Scott with the tragic subject which he has brought into the tale of the bride of lammermoor (see page 88) .statistical aut. 1841 p 16.the family of Dunbar of baldoon was founded in the beginning of the16th century.
which family after passing through many generations are now merged in that of selkirk who in 1793 sold the estate of baldoon to the earl of galloway.
