018 | [Situation] In the Southern Part of the Parish of Kirkcowan. A large mansion house two storeys high & surrounded by ornamental grounds & plantations joining the west end of the house is what is called the Old Tower which forms the west wing of the building: over the door of the Old Tower are to be seen the Arms of Scotland, and outside there is a dungeon or vault which is entered by a trap door on the top. on the back part of the Mansion house are the armorial bearings of the Gordons. A "Bears Head". date 1644. the Stables were erected in 1827. It is the property & Residence of William Charles Hamilton Esq. |
