he himself has taKen up the pavement he also Says there were 20 Score of Brewing Kettles in this town that the principal Gentry of Wigtownshire each held a Rood of Land here (Hence the name of the Rood farm) he Says also it was burnt down by the Highlanders as a retaliation for the Massacre of Glencoe (He asserts that he has been in parts of the Highlands where he dared not say he came from Wigtownshire) there is mention made of an old Sewer or Drain in Chambers Caledonia One Michael Gray pointed out the place where it was reported to be. On Examining it I am of the Opinion its only a Farmers Drain and from the Situation of the town (on a Steep Hill of a Sandy Soil) I am led to believe there never was a Sewer running in this direction. David Douglas ploughed this Land 60 years ago and has tenanted it 50 years he is of this Opinion. There is a place near Muirston on the North Side about 1 mile distant Said to be the Burial ground of this town
