[North] of the village of Cairn Ryan 1¼ Miles North of Loch Ryan House A large Stone about 5 feet high built in the wall on the side of the old road leading to Ayr through Little Leight. on which farm the said stone stands There appears to have been several names Carved on the Stone. The Only One of which is Now visible is that of John Smith. This Stone was formerly a place of Taxing Carriers Pedlars Passing from Ayr to Galloway |
