The proper mode of spelling this name is KepsKaith for the origin of the name it is stated that Highland Drovers in passing through here with Cattle to England were in the habit of driving them into those lands at night time thereby committing "SKaith". or trespass and to prevent them doing so there was a house erected here and a person placed as tenant to keep the Drovers from committing SKaith or trespass on the lands hence the name KepsKaith. I would not be shewn either lease or rent recipt by the farmer but Mr Wilson Brotherinlaw to the proprietress. Mr Boyd says that it is written KepsKaith in both documents he spells it so and so does Mr Leggat Parish Schoolmaster. (signed) J. Easly. C Asst [Civilian Assistant]
