A Considerably sized hill, the S. [South] side of which is very steep and rises sheer up from the N. [North] side of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Road, begining at the wall bounding the stocKyard of Westcraigs - The East side is steep and strewn with boulders and the S.W. [South West] is rocky and Steep, the top forms a kind of table land and thus gently inclines N.ward [Northward] the general surface is not very rough as it affords very good pasture

Previous to the formation of Railways this was the largest and most important Roadside Inn between Edinburgh & Glasgow, but since 1844 it has been a farmstead. The house is large, three stories high and afforded first rate accommodation for all kinds of travellers, the Offices are large & Commodious, Consisting of Stables, Coach houses & all the etceteras as indispensible to such an establishment. The house and Outbuildings are all in good repair. There is a large walled in fruit & Vegetable garden at the N.W. [North west] of the house which stands at the base of West Craig's Hill - It is now called Westcraigs and is the property of A. Inglis Esqr Crammond
