005 | [Situation] About 1/8 mile South of the village of Torphichen This name occurs on the S. [South] side of the wooded ridge that rises abruptly above the S. [South] side of the village of Torphichen and applies to a a precipice a quarter of a mile in length running nearly E. & W. [East and West] between Bycote in the direction of Mallens Brae - It is a bold rugged cliff in some places almost perpendicular, in others it is partly earth with large masses of rock projecting the roots of the trees only holding them in their places, the space between the base of the cliff and the avenue on the S. [South] is a steep slope and is Covered with debris and large masses of stone that have been detached from the rocks [Continued on page 40] |
